Dear Thought Leader,

Happy Friday the 13th! I see it as a lucky day as I was born on the 13th!

Our highlight of the week was hosting the Hon. Minister, Mitzie Hunter, Ontario Minister of  Advanced Learning & Skills at our MindShare Workspace yesterday in partnership with MBOT and Sheridan College. A key announcement was made around the creation of an Ontario Training Bank-- An investment of $63m over 3 years. Check out the facebook
stream here.

I was humbled by Minister Hunter raving about our new MindShare Workspace!

It was fortuitous to connect with colleague,  Dr. Randy LaBonte, President, CanLearn from Victoria, B.C. this week while in Toronto for a conference. Excellent discussion comparing notes on the latest trends in online learning across Canada, Speaking of which CanLearn has a super interesting Digital Learning Symposium next week in Vancouver. The always insightful Dr.Tony Bates will be keynoting. I can’t be there, but perhaps you can. It’s not too late to register!

We’re once again proud to partner with ISTE taking place in Chicago, June 24 -27. Members of our community attending, please drop me a note if you’d to attend our 14th CanAm Celebration of Excellence Meetup, June 25th, 5:30pm.

Save the date! Thursday, October 11th, 9th Canadian EdTech Leadership Summit-- Designing Next Generation Sustainable & Equitable Learning Spaces, New Location! University of Toronto, School of Management & Innovation, Mississauga Campus. Drop me an email if you are interested in speaking or sponsoring!

I hope you’re enjoying our new weekly Top10 reports. We were humbled by the many positive comments received and welcome your continued feedback and
personal updates!

Until next time, keep the digital learning curve steep!

LIONS FAMILY MOURNS LOSS OF MEN'S HOCKEY ALUMNUS MARK CROSS

As past chair of the York University hockey alumni, I would like to honour fellow York alumnus Mark Cross, a 5-year player with the Lions and assistant Captain, who was tragically killed in last week’s Humboldt Broncos bus accident in Sask. Mark was hired this season as an assistant coach with his roots in Sask.

- Robert Martellacci

For those that want to support and keep Mark’s memory thriving at York, the Athletics & Recreation department has established a fund to support the Men’s Hockey program in Mark’s honour.  The department will also be matching dollar for dollar the first $50,000 in donations. You can show your support by clicking here or going to giving.yorku.ca/markcross.

April 9th, 2018 - Toronto Star

As a teenager beginning high school in his Ivory Coast homeland, Ismael Mourifié looked around his classroom and understood something was inherently wrong.

He’d been placed in the math stream based on an admission exam that determined aptitude. But among the almost 45 students, there were only four or five girls. The next year, that number dropped to two.

It didn’t make any sense, Mourifié thought. Math isn’t an innate skill; there shouldn’t be such a dramatic gender disparity.
